Rising: Rocket III
A fast-paced and dynamic sequence, Bottle (or Rocket 1) combines and restructures poses from the Primary and Intermediate Ashtanga series. Sometimes called the “progressive” Ashtanga, if Ashtanga is the “scale,” Rocket is the jazz. The practice is deepened through an emphasis on breath count, movement, and alignment. Foundational poses are emphasized as preparation for peak postures including arm balances and inversions.
Rocket is divided into Rocket I (Bottle), Rocket II, and Rocket III, each of which take the traditional primary and intermediate Ashtanga series, and focus on targeted body strength and flexibility. The three series total 142 poses. Sweat and hard work are expected, and meditation comes easily at the end!
Rocket I: based on a Modified Primary Series
Rocket II: based on the Intermediate series
Rocket III: (aka "Happy Hour") combines the seated Rocket I and Rocket II
What makes Rocket 3 special?
Advanced poses that require deep strength, flexibility, and balance, including challenging arm balances, inversions, and backbends. But more than the poses, the magic in Rocket 3 happens in the transitions between the poses. They're creative and dynamic, adding a wonderful fluidity and grace to the practice. And the best part? Rocket III is all about having fun and exploring your practice. It's like an invitation to approach yoga with a sense of joy and curiosity.
This sequence engages your whole body, targeting different muscle groups to build strength and flexibility. While it’s designed for experienced yogis, there are always variations and modifications available to suit different proficiency levels.
Students are highly encouraged to have a good foundation in yoga before attempting Rocket 3. It’s important to already be familiar with Ashtanga Yoga, Rocket 1 and Rocket 2. Practicing under the guidance of an experienced yoga teacher is essential for the right instructions, adjustments, and support.
The room is heated for Rocket classes.
