Jackie Shaffer

Jackie Shaffer leads yoga classes, meditation groups, meditation retreats and workshops at Sun & Moon Yoga Studio in northern Virginia. She began meditation in 1970, which in time, led her to the practice of hatha yoga. Jackie has taught yoga for more than 17 years. Her approach is nurtured by numerous insightful and awakened teachers, among them Erich Schiffmann, Sally Kempton, Adyashanti and Mukti. Jackie's reverence toward the mystery of life itself is her foundation. At Sun and Moon, Jackie mentors teachers within the In-Depth Program. Her yoga is enriched by practices of Feldenkrais, energy medicine and qi gong. Building on a love of science and her practice of art making, Jackie's recent workshops include Yoga for Your Brain, and Color Meditation: Painting for Yogis.

Christine Clardy

Christine’s classes emphasize healthy, individualized physical alignment and breath awareness, as well as finding balance between effort and ease. Throughout the practice, personal inquiry and internal listening remain key. Yoga becomes an ongoing cultivation of “skill in action” as it helps unify the body, mind and heart. Classes for families, kids or teens also explore classic asana and yoga wisdom, adding age-appropriate games, teamwork exercises, and relaxation to the experience. In addition to having taught middle and high school English, group yoga in a school setting, and mindfulness workshops for kids ages 5-8, Chris is trained in Love Your Brain Yoga, Move with Me Yoga Adventures, and most recently as Family Peer Recovery Specialist through the Richmond Behavioral Health Authority. She is certified with the Veterans’ Yoga Project. Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield’s The Power of Awareness informs her teaching of meditation, as does her 2022 course certification through Gary Kraftsow's Meditation Unlocked. She has an M.A. in American Literature and an M.A. in Religious Studies and became a RYT200 through Sun and Moon in 2018. Chris came to yoga in 1995 as a young and busy professional, having no interest in its traditions or techniques. She simply liked feeling relaxed! Over time, however, yoga has become different things, seemingly able to morph into whatever she needs whenever she needs it. Today, she still likes feeling relaxed—but also eagerly explores the vast system of traditions and techniques that she once overlooked.
