This FREE event takes place in the Arlington studio, in-person only.

Meet Pernilla von Mettenheim, longtime Sun & Moon student, Work Exchanger, and In-Depth Teacher Trainee, who began painting Buddhas during the pandemic as a way to relieve the heaviness of the times. A journalist, photographer, entrepreneur, and current co- owner of a local design and build company, Pernilla uses her creativity and solution-oriented mind for daily operations, but painting became the outlet she craved.

One of her self-described weaknesses is procrastination, and the other is perfectionism. So when Pernilla began simply laying down layers of paint instead of focusing so much of the final result, she  learned to accept the steps on the way, allow the paint to dry, and keep coming back for more layers. In this way, perfectionism got to step aside, and Pernilla discovered how freeing it was to accept the process. The peace she craved showed up in the work.

Join Pernilla for a brief talk and "gallery walk" of her work on display at Sun & Moon's Arlington studio, as she shares how painting became such a meditative outlet and resource for her, not just during the pandemic, but also while in her teacher training program, and then while caring for her mother while she was in hospice until she transitioned.

A lot of people say they cannot dance or paint and will not try because they have an idea of the outcome. I found that this method really helped me get through and let go of those ideas and find the joy of painting I had as a little girl. I have found my way back to parts of my self I put on the back burner - and to find a type of meditative bliss in the play with colors.
